About Turning a New Page
Rick McAtee
Rick McAtee is the President and Chief Academic Officer of Turning a New Page (TNP). Rick holds an M.S. degree in Reading and has over 30 years of educational experience, 16 years in the classroom working with students from kindergarten through 8th grade and the past 14 years working directly in the field of Reading. He has worked as a National Reading Consultant and Staff Developer for major publishing companies. His work with large urban school districts to raise scores through teacher training and staff development earned him the recognition to be asked to work with inmates in a Federal Prison. The charge was to take inmates reading at 2nd grade and below and enable them to get a GED. His success with this project was documented in the Journal of Adolescent and Adult Literacy and an ABC special, Reading: Your ABC’s to Success, hosted by Kelly Ripa. Rick’s work with adult struggling readers enabled Turning a New Page to produce materials designed to prevent younger students, who are struggling with reading, from having to face the same bleak future.
Rick developed Cracking the Code and Writing Steps to Success . Rick is a children’s author and continues to write books in the Alphabetland Series.
Rosemary Pineau
Rosemary Pineau has a B.Ed with a French major. A teacher for over 25 years, she most recently was Head Teacher at Westmorland Institution (a federal minimum-security prison in New Brunswick, Canada). Rosemary does presentations in the New Brunswick area addressing the educational programs offered in the Maritime institutions. She also leads workshops for public school teachers addressing the at - risk learner. She was featured on Canada AM, an ABC reading special and in several local newspapers.
Rosemary owned and operated a tutoring business for 16 years. During this time, she became adept at identifying and remediating learning problems encountered by at - risk students. She has been an advocate for programs assisting students who have difficulty learning in the traditional classroom setting.
Darryl Mrockowski
Darryl Mrockowski manages Operations for Turning a New Page. Previously, he was in Training and Development with the Tohono O’odham Gaming Authority. He has also held positions with Scholastic Publishing, the Wadsworth Atheneum and TIE Communications.
Darryl has a B.S. degree in business from the University of New Haven in Connecticut, and an A.S. degree from Housatonic Community College, where he graduated first in his class. He was honored by the Marana Foundation in 2004 with their Hero’s Award for his work with at - risk students at Thornydale Elementary School.
In his spare time, Darryl enjoys swimming, hiking, reading and the theater.
